Although it’s not really a surprise given the reports on his injury, the Green Bay Packers have released a statement announcing that wide receiver Jordy Nelson will not play in the upcoming season.
Team spokesman Jason Wahlers didn’t specify the exact injury that Nelson sustained during the Packers’ preseason game against the Steelers, opting to describe it as a “significant right knee injury.”
“It was determined that WR Jordy Nelson sustained a significant right knee injury in yesterday’s game at Pittsburgh. He will miss the remainder of the season.”
Reports have indicated that Nelson tore his right ACL.
Nelson’s injury has once again sparked a discussion on how necessary the preseason is for players to prepare for the regular season. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sounded off on the length of the preseason, calling the exhibition game where Nelson got injured “meaningless.”
The loss is a blow to the Packers offense as Nelson had his best year as a pro in 2014, catching 98 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.
