The Green Bay Packers have a lot of talent, but one star player wants even more abundance of talent on the team.
Green Bay made the playoffs again, as quarterback Jordan Love is 2-for-2 on bringing the Packers to the postseason. Love replaced the great Aaron Rodgers at quarterback and hasn’t wavered since.
The team has an array of terrific wide receivers, but arguably nobody that stands out as a true ‘No. 1’ wide receiver. Running back Josh Jacobs wants the team to address that issue.
“I would say, you know, I think we need another D-end. I think we need another DB. And I think we need a wide receiver,” Jacobs said on PFT Live. “I love the guys that we have in the receiving room. They all have the potential to be [a No.] 1. But we need a guy that’s proven to be [a No.] 1.”
Packers receivers Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs recorded the top three most targets for the team last season. But nobody had more than Wicks’ 76. Green Bay rival Minnesota had Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson record 99 and 154 targets respectively, by comparison.
When Green Bay had Davante Adams, they certainly had a true No. 1. Adams was one of the league’s best receivers at the height of his skill in Titletown. Since then, while there’s still great play, nobody has been able to stand out.
Jacobs‘ recommendation may strike a chord with some Packers fans, but Green Bay hasn’t always operated in a ‘shop first, ask questions later’ mindset like som teams.
So we’ll see if the Packers address what their star player wants them to do or not.
