When he’s not busy taking ESPN to task for their reporting standards, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports also runs a great program called Touchdown Dreams which seeks to give a child who is fighting a serious illness an experience that they will cherish for a very long time.
This holiday season, Glazer collaborated with the Oakland Raiders to set up a meet-and-greet for four-year-old Ava Urrea, who is living with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
Ava received plenty of great gifts and she was made the team captain for the day. However, one Raider in particular had something extra special in mind for Ava.
Offensive lineman Menelik Watson donated one of his game checks to Ava’s family.
That means that, after taxes, Ava and her family will receive about $18,000 from Watson.
Needless to say, it is an incredibly generous and heart-warming gesture. NFL players are paid for each week of the season (not over the course of the year) so Watson essentially donated 1/16th of his salary to a great cause. That is getting into the spirit of the holidays.
