Spirits were high in New York after the New York Jets landed legendary quarterback and multiple MVP winner Aaron Rodgers a couple of offseasons ago. However, things having gone quite as planned since Rodgers set foot in the Big Apple.

Rodgers failed to register a single completion in his first season with the Jets, instead going down with an Achilles injury in his first series of the year. Although Rodgers has been available this season, the Jets have been little more than a disappointment.

Rodgers and the Jets finished the season 5-12 and the quarterback had arguably the worst campaign of his storied career.

Many pundits and experts have speculated that even if Rodgers decides that he wants to return for another year, the Jets will decide that it’s in the franchise’s best interests to move on from the aging legend.

Now, Jets owner Woody Johnson has revealed his decision regarding Rodgers.

“From a numbers standpoint, he did OK, except for the most important number — winning games,” Johnson said, according to Pro Football Talk.

“But that’s going to be up to the coach. The coach will have to decide what the quarterback situation is. That’s going to be a very important job for the General Manager and the coach — what do we want and when do we get it and what’s our timeline. Where does Aaron Rodgers fit into that?”

Now that we know Johnson is letting the team’s next head coach make the final call on Rodgers, it’ll be interesting to see who the team hires.
