The New York Jets have made it pretty clear in recent months that they are willing to trade quarterback Zach Wilson after another season where he did not perform well in the starting quarterback role. But the team has not yet agreed to a trade to part ways with Wilson, which is pretty brutal news for Wilson as backup quarterback jobs around the league have filled up already.
General manager Joe Douglas offered his reaction to the whole issue this week. During a press conference, Douglas made it clear that he does understand the urgency on the part of Zach Wilson to want a trade from the team, but he said that the team also has to look out for its own best interest as they seek a trade, as well.
“I mean, that’s the trick, right?” Douglas said according to ESPN. “That’s the magic trick, so to speak, is to try to make sure that Zach’s in a good spot, but also doing what’s right for the New York Jets. So that’s the line we’re walking.”
We’ll have to see whether or not the Jets can ultimately find a trade partner for Wilson before the start of the season.
