The New Orleans Saints have a starting quarterback already with Derek Carr leading the way and they have a strong collection of veteran quarterbacks behind him with Nathan Peterman, Jake Haener, and do-it-all offensive weapon Taysom Hill all in the quarterbacks room. But that does not appear to be stopping the Saints from adding another option.
On Friday morning, the New Orleans Saints announced that they had signed veteran quarterback Kellen Mond as a free agent.
“New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has agreed to terms with quarterback Kellen Mond,” the Saints wrote on the team website on Friday morning.
Mond, the former star quarterback of the Texas A&M Aggies, was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Mond spent his rookie season in Minnesta but was waived at the beginning of the regular season in 2022 before he was ultimately claimed by the Cleveland Browns for the 2022 season. After he was released by the Browns in 2023, he signed with Indianapolis Colts where he spent the season on the practice squad.
Mond has appeared in just one regular-season game back in 2021 where he completed 2-of-3 passes for five yards.
