The New England Patriots will have a new head coach this season as first-year head coach Jerod Mayo is taking over after the team decided to part ways with legendary six-time Super Bowl champion head coach Bill Belichick. It will be a tall task for Mayo to replace Belichick, but it sounds like one Patriot star is already expecting big things.
During a recent interview with WEEI, New England Patriots star linebacker Matthew Judon had a pretty clear message about what he is expecting from Jerod Mayo this season.
“You know, I think our defense had a lot of good moments throughout the season,” Judon said according to Pro Football Talk. “And I think Mayo is going to be an amazing head coach for us, help us out, and try to right the ship.
“It’s new. Everything’s new. But I’m glad we’ve got a lot of old faces coming.”
Obviously, Mayo will have a lot to prove this season as he takes such a high profile position replacing a legendary coach for his first-ever head coaching job. It will certainly be interesting to see how he performs in the role, but it’s clear that Judon has a lot of confidence in him.
