Even though it seems likely that the New England Patriots would be in the market for a new starting quarterback this offseason, that doesn’t mean that the team has any intention of disparaging any of their current quarterbacks or talking about them publically.
During a press conference at the 2024 NFL Combine, New England Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf addressed the team’s quarterback situation, making it clear that the team was going to explore its options at quarterback, they had no intention of talking about Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe in the media.
“I’d say there’s a lot of options on the table,” Wolf said. “I’m glad you asked about Mac [Jones] and Bailey [Zappe] — we’re not going to be a program that’s talking about these guys in terms of through the media. We’re going to do what’s best for the team behind the scenes and the strategy of that is going to be myself, [head coach] Jerod Mayo, [director of player personnel] Matt Groh. And we’re going to do the right thing for the team.”
The Patriots currently hold the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, and it seems like there’s a strong chance they could use it on a quarterback.
