New England Patriots new head coach Jerod Mayo is certainly taking a new approach to leading the team compared to Bill Belichick, but there is one thing that he seems to be sticking with that he learned from his predecessor.
The Patriots have been linked to a possible trade for San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. But during a press conference, Jerod Mayo did not want to talk about it, mentioning that he learned from Bill Belichick not to talk about players on other teams.
“I know what all you guys want to know, but one thing I learned from Bill [Belichick] is I don’t talk about players on other teams, so let me just go ahead and say that now,” Mayo said according to Pro Football Talk. “Let me say that as a player, I appreciated that — I appreciated that the only opinions that mattered were inside the walls. So, I’m still trying to apply that now going forward.”
That did not stop reporters from asking him about the talks anyway, and Mayo simply deferred to Patriots’ de facto general manager Eliot Wolf.
“I’ll be honest with you, that’s more of an Eliot question,” Mayo said. “Right now, I’m just focused on the guys out here — the New England Patriots.”
Clearly, he is borrowing one thing from the Belichick era.
