Many New England Patriots fans expected that Drake Maye would take over as the team’s starting quarterback this upcoming season after the team selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft. But based on some recent comments from new head coach Jerod Mayo, it sounds like the rookie is a long way from earning that starting role.
Drake Maye took his first practice reps with the New England Patriots this weekend as part of the team’s rookie minicamp. And when asked for his early impressions of the rookie quarterback, Jerod Mayo gave a pretty brutally honest assessment of the young quarterback as he indicated that he has a lot of work to do before he’s ready to be the starter.
“Early impressions of Drake? Look, he has a lot to work on,” Mayo said of Maye. “A lot to work on. But I have no doubt that he will put the time in. You didn’t see him out here yesterday, but he was here all night trying to get on the same page as everyone else.”
Obviously, this brutal assessment of Maye’s early performance went viral on social media and people were quick to offer their reactions.
Buyer’s remorse… I warned Jerod. I penned a letter to him, urging him to select Bo Nix. Apparently, he had no respect for me or my work. He probably does now.

How does UNC keep getting away with fooling the NFL?!

If your head coach is already saying that, things don’t look good for you.

We’ll have to see whether or not Maye improves this preseason.
