When the free agency period opened for the NFL this month, the New England Patriots heavily pursued free agent wide receiver Calvin Ridley as new head coach Jerod Mayo looks to build a strong offense. But Ridley ultimately decided to sign with the Tennessee Titans, instead, and it sounds like Mayo was a bit disappointed.
During an interview at the NFL annual league meetings this week, Jerod Mayo addressed missing out on signing Calvin Ridley during free agency, making it clear that it was disappointing, but the team is still happy with the team that they are building this offseason.
“I think the most important thing for us was to get our people back here. Re-sign our players – the Mike Onwenus of the world. We have some good players that we like to keep and that’s kind of part of the culture that we want to build,” Mayo said according to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.

“Obviously, we were disappointed that Ridley went in a different direction, but hey, we’re good. I like the direction that we’re going,” Mayo continued.
We’ll have to see what the team ultimately looks like as the Patriots continue to try to build their roster.
