The Cleveland Browns’ season got off to a putrid start, losing to the Dallas Cowboys 33-17 in their home stadium. The final score makes the game look even closer than it was. The Browns struggled in all three phases of the game, with the defense looking nothing like the league-best unit from last season.
The poor performance was not taken lightly by the home crowd, which took to booing the Browns throughout the game. At least one Browns defender, reigning defensive player of the year Myles Garrett, understands where the home fans were coming from and knows the team has to be better.
According to Athlon Sports, Garrett was asked after the game how he felt about the fans booing the team in their home stadium and didn’t mince words in his answer.
“They have the right to tell us however they feel. I mean, if we’re not playing well, they have the right to boo,” Garrett said. “If we’re kicking [behind], they have the right to cheer. It’s their privilege.
“They come in, they pay to see us do well and we didn’t, and we got to put on better performance if we expect them to go out there and support us in full force. So, we got to be better, and that’s all on us.”
The Browns’ defense will have to step up for what looks to be a floundering offense if they want to salvage the season.
