On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings officially lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins as he decided to leave the team and sign with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency instead. But it didn’t take all that long for the team to find their replacement for their longtime quarterback.
On early Tuesday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Minnesota Vikings were expected to sign veteran quarterback Sam Darnold as their next starting quarterback.
“A new QB in Minnesota: The #Vikings are expected to sign #49ers QB Sam Darnold, per me and @TomPelissero. Darnold gets a 1-year deal worth $10M, sources say, and joins former teammate Josh McCown, who is Minnesota’s new QB coach. Kirk Cousins out, Darnold in,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Darnold was the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, but he did not work out for the team, parting ways with the Jets after just three seasons as the team selected Zach Wilson as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to replace him.
We’ll have to see how Darnold performs with another chance at being a full-time starter in the league.
