The Dallas Cowboys are trying to right the ship after a disastrous season. Despite signing stars Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to massive contract extensions before the season, the Cowboys went 7-10 on the season and missed the playoffs.

Now, Dallas has to decide whether head coach Mike McCarthy is the right man for the job, or if it’s time to make a change and take the franchise in a new direction. Now, according to one NFL insider, Dallas has made its final decision on how to proceed regarding McCarthy, and it appears he’ll be sticking around.

After several days of discussions about the 2024 season and the future, (Cowboys) owner Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy remain open to moving forward together and the sides are expected to open talks today on a new contract to keep him in Dallas, per sources.

There have been no negotiations yet and still are other issues to work through. McCarthy’s contract is set to expire Tuesday, giving Dallas a few more days to work out a deal. Otherwise, McCarthy would be free to pursue other opportunities,” reported NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“Before you guys send hate towards Jerry, remember you aren’t just attacking an owner, but a father, a husband, and a christian. One bad season shouldn’t takeaway what he’s brought to this team and we should be looking forward to seeing him continue to lead our Cowboys,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Mike is a yes man and allows Jerry to be the star of the show. Jerry jones has no will to win a Super Bowl. Keeping a mid coach that is like room temperature rice is such low hanging fruit Jerry loves so much,” one fan added.

“Embarrassing playoff performances against Green Bay and San Fran, team is always over-penalized and clock management down the stretch is always an adventure. Jerry needs the credit for the team’s success and refuses to hire a competent HC for that reason. Disgusting,” added another fan.

“I know McCarthy gave conditions on his return and that he won’t return unless they gave him more help in FA.. So if he’s returning then they must’ve agreed to try to attempt to be aggressive & have a plan for the offseason,” someone else wrote.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dallas approaches the offseason if McCarthy does indeed return.
