During one magical moment of this week’s Monday night’s “Monday Night Countdown,” it sure sounded like talking bag of hot gas Mike Ditka let out a huge bag of hot gas.

Now, to be fair to Ditka, it’s impossible to say who let that noise rip. It very well could have been anyone on the panel or a rogue agent behind the camera. Ditka is who everyone suspected because the fart landed at the moment that he started laughing at what Carter was saying (Carter’s reaction after the fart also seemed to back the notion that he was close to The Event).
However, on Tuesday Ditka cleared the air (so to speak) as he told the Chicago Sun-Times that he was not responsible for the flatulence.
“It wasn’t me,” he told the Sun-Times. “Believe me, I’m to the point in my life where it doesn’t matter. One day I’ll be happy if I can leave a fart. Right now, it wasn’t me. I don’t care what they think. They can think anything they want.”
The Mystery of the Monday Night Countdown Fart lives on in infamy.
