A few years ago, the New Orleans Saints signed star wide receiver Michael Thomas to a lengthy contract extension that made him the highest-paid receiver in the history of the league for a time. But now, it looks like his time with the team is over.
According to a report from Jeff Duncan of Nola.com, the New Orleans Saints have decided to part ways with Michael Thomas this offseason.
“Michael Thomas has played his last game for the New Orleans Saints. The former All-Pro receiver is expected to be released at some point before the start of the league year, which begins next week on March 13,” Duncan wrote for Nola.com this week. “It’s not a matter of if the Saints move on, but when, according to multiple sources.”
Thomas was once one of the league’s most productive wide receivers, catching a record 149 passes in 2019. But since then, his career has been marred by injuries.
Thomas played just seven games in 2020 before missing the entire 2021 season due to an injury. He then played just three games in 2022 and then 10 games in 2023.
We’ll have to see if Thomas can get healthy again and make an impact on another team this fall.
