Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons has been absent for the vast majority of the team’s voluntary offseason workouts. And it doesn’t sound like head coach Mike McCarthy is necessarily all that happy with that decision.
During a recent press conference, Mike McCarthy expressed his slight displeasure with Micah Parsons skipping OTAs, calling it an “opportunity that’s been missed” for him to work with new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
“I think any time that you have a chance to be together, it’s an opportunity to improve,” McCarthy said according to the Dallas Cowboys official team website. “Whether it’s in the mental realm, the physical realm and the emotional connection and so forth. It’s a long year. Training camp is really the heightened focus for all of that, but it’s definitely an opportunity that’s been missed [for Parsons].”
Obviously, McCarthy would have preferred Parsons to be present for OTAs, but now it will just be up to Parsons to make sure he’s ready when the team begins training camp later this summer.
“At the end of the day, everybody has a responsibility,” McCarthy said. “It’s our jobs. Obviously, we have this period of time to have football activity that’s regulated. I wouldn’t say fortunately, but 98 percent of our football team has been here. We’ve accomplished a lot.
“Everybody has a responsibility whether they’re here or not here to get what they need, because when we get to Oxnard that is our one opportunity for real football.”
Needless to say, it’s pretty brutal news that Parsons has not been present with the team, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

I’m going to miss players “holding out” during OTAs and the fake outrage from NFL ppl when the offseason schedule is changed. https://t.co/T6z1UwJtsc

Cowboys fans- do we honestly see the Micah relationship having a happy ending? He’s an insane talent, but what could you get for moving him? https://t.co/2zFOaU4Hbm

I’ve frankly stopped caring what McCarthy is happy or unhappy about. He is the leader of a completely unserious team, maybe look in the mirror champ https://t.co/rdD260fTpT
