With wide receiver Jaylen Waddle getting a contract extension this week and superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill seeking a significant pay raise as well, the Miami Dolphins now have a pretty significant decision to make regarding the future of Tua Tagovailoa in Miami.
While both the Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa have expressed confidence that the two sides would work out a deal to keep him in Miami for the foreseeable future, no deal has been completed yet. As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, until that deal is finalized, his fate in Miami is up in the air.
“The most important person in this entire exercise is team owner Stephen Ross. Is he willing to give Tua $50 million or more per year when the jury remains out on how far he can take the team? Or will Ross trust a coach who has a reputation for designing and implementing high-end offense to do as well or better with someone else?” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.
“Dak Prescott might be available next year. Kirk Cousins could be available, at only $27.5 million in 2025 salary. Deshaun Watson, depending on how this season goes in Cleveland, could be available. What could other quarterbacks do with a revolving door of potent running backs and a receiving corps led by Hill and Waddle?”
Obviously, this is a big decision for Miami, and it has led to a lot of conversation on social media.
I think Stephen Ross is not going to give Tua big money until he proves he can win big games. I believe they will let him play out his contract and then maybe franchise tag him.

Tua is the odd man out
He will have to play on his 5th year option and prove he is worth an extension

If dolphins are smart, they’d wait to pay him and keep an eye on the Dak Prescott situation

He better get to a conference championship real soon.

We’ll have to see what the Dolphins ultimately decide to do. But if Tagovailoa isn’t signed by the start of the season, things could get very interesting.
