The Miami Dolphins were already dealing with one major quarterback injury heading into Sunday’s game, and they’re now having to deal with another one.
During last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and has been placed on the IR, meaning he will miss at least four games.
In his place, backup quarterback Skylar Thompson took over as the team’s quarterback, but he was knocked out of the game with an injury.
Thompson suffered what head coach Mike McDaniel described as a “pretty painful” rib injury and ultimately left the game in the third quarter.
McDaniel said that Thompson lobbied to return, but the pain was too unbearable.
Obviously, this injury is pretty horrible news for the Dolphins after they already lost their starting quarterback for an undetermined amount of time, and McDaniel offered his reaction during the postgame press conference.
“Unfortunate, but such is the nature of the National Football League,” McDaniel said according to Pro Football Talk. “I’m not looking for excuses, I don’t think anyone in the locker room is. It’s tough, but the National Football League’s tough.”
The team did add veteran quarterback Tyler Huntley last week. We’ll have to see if the injury to Thompson means that he will see the field for the Dolphins.
