Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is in the midst of contract negotiations with the team as he heads into the final season of his rookie contract after the team picked up his fifth-year option. And it sounds like it could impact his availability for training camp.
During a press conference this week, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel called the situation regarding Tua Tagovailoa “very fluid,” saying that that the two sides are “taking it day by day” regarding his status.
“It’s important to acknowledge that Tua is in the midst of a contract negotiation,” McDaniel said according to Pro Football Talk. “That’s important to him and the football team. That being said, we communicate very well and it’s very fluid. We’re taking it day by day. Today, I’m expecting it to be kind of like OTAs and we’ll move on from there.”
Tagovailoa indicated that he will be seeking a market-value contract for a quarterback, but the Dolphins have not seemed to be willing to offer him that sort of contract. We’ll have to see how their contract negotiations shake out in the coming weeks and if he’ll be available for training camp leading up to the season.
