The Minnesota Vikings had two first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, but NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. still doesn’t seem to think the team had a very good draft performance.
The Vikings traded up to select Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick and selected Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner with the No. 17 overall pick. But Kiper was not impressed by this, believing the team is not set up for success and that the team selected McCarthy far too early.
“They’re not set up well for next year,” Kiper said according to On3. “That’s the main thing with three picks. Look at JJ McCarthy, a little high for me. No. 15 on the board, you take him at 10. I love Dallas Turner where they got him but after that, I think it all revolves around JJ McCarthy. If he’s as good as some think he can become, I get it. But they gave up a lot to get the players they were able to require.”
Kiper gave the Vikings just a C+ rating for their draft performance this year, which obviously is not a great score by any means.
We’ll have to see if the players can prove Kiper wrong by the way they perform this upcoming season.
