We’re still trying to figure out what Saints receiver Marques Colston was thinking on this play. With almost no time on the clock, and the Saints trailing 23-15 to the Seahawks, Drew Brees probably had one or two plays left — one being a Hail Mary (and ensuing two-point conversion) — to tie the game and send it to overtime. Brees hit Colston along the sideline, where simply stepping out of bounds would have set up a final heave. Instead, Colston did…this. What this is, is not a legal play in football. And, because you can’t just throw the ball forward to kill the clock, there was a ten-second run-off, which ended the game in very anti-climactic fashion.
