It’s safe to say that things have not gone quite the way the New England Patriots expected when they selected Mac Jones with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a result, it sounds like the two sides are going to part ways this offseason.
According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the New England Patriots are looking to trade Mac Jones this offseason and appear to have interest from other teams.
“The #Patriots appear open to trading QB Mac Jones and teams have been calling them and doing work on the former starter, sources say. With a new coaching staff, a fresh start may make sense for all sides,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Jones had a strong rookie season with the team in 2021, even earning Pro Bowl honors, but he has been unable to replicate that success in the following seasons. He was even benched in favor of Bailey Zappe at the end of the 2023 season.
Now, it looks like his time in New England is over, and that news got a lot of reactions on social media.
I feel bad for Mac jones. The team did him dirty. https://t.co/a2yif1HJ2S

I’ll always have a soft spot for Mac.
He had a really good rookie year and everything around him crashed and burned around him after that. Was never an ideal situation post-McDaniels departure. https://t.co/d6bitDIsH8

A 5th-round pick would be perfect. https://t.co/ZOV8aSWKXU

We’ll have to see where Jones ends up next season.
