The Super Bowl is arguably the most American sporting event on the planet. But it sounds like one city in another country is interested in possibly hosting the big game sometime in the future.

This week, London Mayor Sadiq Khan revealed that he would like to see the city play host to the Super Bowl in the future.

“The Super Bowl is really important for us,” Sadiq Khan said according to The Athletic. “We have a number of American football games and I want it to come here because we want American sports fans in Europe to come to London to watch them, not just go to America.”

Obviously, this would be a pretty big move from the NFL, and the idea led to a lot of reactions on social media.

The NFL has been intentional about its efforts to expand the game overseas, playing several games in other countries every season. But playing the Super Bowl overseas would certainly be a pretty significant move that goes beyond what the NFL has done to date.

There currently is no actual plan for the Super Bowl taking place in London or any other foreign city, but it sounds like it’s at least a possibility.
