On Wednesday, an arrest warrant was issued for then Detroit Lions starting cornerback Cam Sutton. And just a day later, he no longer has a job in the NFL after further details emerged about his disgusting situation.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, authorities in Florida issued a warrant for alleged domestic battery by strangulation. Then, authorities posted that they needed assistance locating Sutton, and he has still not been found at this point.
The Lions organization seemingly caught wind of the situation, promptly releasing Sutton on Thursday.
#Lions have released CB Cam Sutton.

More details will likely emerge on this situation once Sutton is found by authorities. But it goes without saying that it doesn’t exactly look good for him.
Fans took to social media to offer their opinion on the Lions’ decision, largely agreeing that it was the correct time to part ways.
Grateful the Lions made a quick decision, extremely disappointed this even had to happen. https://t.co/EP1wcg9BC0

This is generally an indicator that NFL investigators have told the team that the player will be forfeiting future guarantees.
And the NFL does not generally get that sort of thing wrong.
Unfortunate for all involved. https://t.co/kS11CZxr8W

I’m sure I speak for most of the female Lions fans when I say thank you to the Lions organization for making a quick decision, one not all teams would do. I hate that this seems to have been a true story of DV at the hands of Sutton. https://t.co/071td7xqjr

Sad situation, but it needed to happen. #Lions have a shot to reconstruct cornerback entirely now. https://t.co/Y9Ruei4sAY

Sutton recently signed a three-year $33 million contract with the Lions last offseason to keep him on the team long-term. But obviously, any deal will completely go out the window when a situation like this arises, and rightfully so.
As far as how this affects the Lions on the field, it could be a pretty significant loss, as Sutton played a big part in their success last year, starting all 17 regular season games for the organization.
More importanly, hopefully the victim in this situation is receiving whatever help they may need. And hopefully Sutton is found by authorities to face the charges he is being accused of.
