Detroit Lions star Jameson Williams is currently in the midst of a two-game suspension for performance enhancing drugs. But on Tuesday, even further news emerged that could end up resulting in a much lengthier absence for the former first-round pick.
Earlier this month, Williams almost arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a concealed pistol license. But the officers on site opted to let him go without arresting him.
Now, we may see Williams face consequences for his situation after the Detroit Police Department officially launched an internal affairs investigation into the matter.
According to 7 News in Detroit, Williams’ brother was driving a car that was stopped by officers. It was then determined that there were two guns in the car, one that was registered to Williams and the other that was registered to his brother. His brother happens to have a concealed pistol license, while he did not.
Despite this violation taking place, Williams was not arrested despite being put in the back of a squad car. This reportedly came after a a lieutenant was called about the incident, ordering that Williams be released when all signs pointed to him being arrested. Williams now faces charges made last week for carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle.
The Lions issued a statement on the matter, largely choosing not to comment further until further legal proceedings play out.
“Jameson made us aware immediately that he was a passenger in a routine traffic stop on October 8th. We discussed the incident with him and have kept the league informed of what we know. We understand he was released without incident or citation. It is now our understanding that the Detroit Police Department is revisiting the matter. Jameson has hired an attorney, and we will not be commenting further out of respect for the legal process”
Only time will tell how this potentially plays out or impacts his future in Detroit. But it has certainly not been a great month for the standout wide receiver.
