The Detroit Lions are among the best stories in sports today. But after a dispiriting loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Detroit is still feeling it on Monday.

In more ways than one, and in more discouraging news, one of their star players is injured.

Star running back David Montgomery, one of the key pieces to the puzzle in the Motor City, injured his MCL in the loss to the Bills. ESPN’s Adam Schefter delivered a grim prognosis for the star player.

“Lions RB David Montgomery is now out indefinitely after suffering an MCL injury during Sunday’s loss to the Bills,” Schefter said.

Schefter added that Montgomery, a former star at Iowa State, will undergo more testing to see what his diagnosis is. But, as he added, most believe he may have played his last down this season.

“There are people in the Lions’ organization who believe that David Montgomery will be lost for the season with his sprained MCL, but there are additional tests to go through,” Schefter added.

The Lions are 12-2 and in prime condition to still win the NFC North. But without Montgomery and possibly other injured players as well, their road to January may have gotten a bit tougher. It doesn’t help that 11-2 Minnesota and 10-4 Green Bay are breathing down their necks, either.

Several poured out with reactions to the discouraging situation the Lions have to deal with now.

This may be the worst injury season of all time for a single team,” one fan on X said.

“I am speechless right now,” one dismayed Lions fan said.

“We flew too close to the sun,” a disappointed Detroit fan uttered.

“Hey, so this is stupid,” one annoyed fan remarked.

Nonetheless, the Lions have come this far. We’ll see how much further Detroit can get.
