Detroit Lions veteran quarterback Jared Goff has played a big part in changing the culture in Detroit into a winning franchise. And on Monday, the organization decided to reward Goff for all he has done for the organization for the past few seasons.
As the Lions have gotten better as an overall roster, so has Goff. This past season was perhaps the best of his eight-year career, throwing for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes, a career-high for him.
It’s truthfully pretty impressive to see this kind of success from Goff, who was largely seen as a bit of an afterthought in the eyes of most fans after being traded away by the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford.
For this, Goff has received a massive contract extension from the Lions. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions have agreed to terms on a four-year 212 million dollar contract extension with Goff. The deal makes him the highest-paid player in the history of the Lions organization.
Another done deal in Detroit: Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

Per season, Goff is now among the highest-paid quarterbacks in all of football. Only Joe Burrow, who has an average annual value of $55 million, is being paid more than Goff on a per-year basis.
Given his production in recent years, it’s hard to argue that Goff absolutely deserved this kind of deal. And as long as he is able to keep up his steady play, the Lions should undoubtedly continue to be one of the best teams in the NFC this coming season.
