Earlier this month, the Las Vegas Raiders signed Bataan quarterback Gardner Minshew to their roster, adding a veteran quarterback with plenty of experience as a starter to possibly lead their team this season. And it sounds like new head coach Antonio Pierce is excited to have him.
During a recent interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings in Florida, Antonio Pierce offered his reaction to Gardner Minshew joining the team and opened up a bit about what he sees in him.
“One thing about Gardner that you see throughout his career, he finds a way, right? So, that’s going to make our room better,” Pierce said according to the Las Vegas Raiders team website. “He’s been through a lot of adversity; you want that experience as well in there. So, to me, it’s a good fit, and it’s a culture fit. Wild boy right there. I like the personality.”
Minshew will compete this offseason with second-year quarterback Aidan O’Connell for the starting job. O’Connell was the team’s starter for most of last season after the team benched the previous starter, Jimmy Garoppolo.
O’Connell performed well in his debut season, but we’ll have to see if he will be able to hold onto the job over Minshew.
