With both defensive tackles Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave out with injuries, the San Francisco 49ers looked a little depleted on the interior defensive line during Sunday afternoon’s win over the Arizona Cardinals, but the performance left some wondering if the team might look to pursue free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to help bolster the position.
During a recent press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing in Ndamukong Suh, but he also made it clear that the team didn’t have any current plans to do so, either.
“Not yet,” Shanahan said according to 49ers Webzone. “I mean, I’m not ruling out anything. We have guys on our practice squad, as you guys see, that we used last week. But that stuff, we also aren’t exactly sure when Hargrave and Armstead are coming back. We do know they have chances this week, so there’s a lot of variables that are playing together that we’ll be discussing here the rest of the day, tomorrow. And even if we don’t make a move in any area, that’ll probably be continuing throughout the year.”
Suh has made it clear that he would like to play in the NFL this season and would like to join a Super Bowl contender late in the year. The 49ers would seem to fit the description, so we’ll have to see if that ultimately happens.
