The San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk have been in a standoff regarding his contract for months, and as the team gets closer to the star of the upcoming season, it doesn’t sound like anything has really changed.
During a recent press conference, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that he had “no new updates” and said “nothing’s changed yet” when it comes to the situation regarding Brandon Aiyuk.
“Oh so much has changed — no, I’m just joking. No new updates. I’m sorry to keep being boring with that, but I wish I was saying something different. But nothing’s changed yet,” Shanahan said on KNBR.
Shanahan was also asked about Aiyuk’s back injury, which Shanahan said was the reason why has not been practicing with the team. But he did not give a significant update on that, either.
“From what I hear, he’s still working through it,” Shanahan said.
It’s been a long and tumultuous offseason for both Aiyuk and the Niners. We’ll have to see whether or not it ultimately ends in a new contract for the star wide receiver to keep him in San Francisco this season and beyond.
