This week, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins officially decided to sign with the Atlanta Falcons, leaving the Minnesota Vikings after six seasons with the team. It was a major pickup for the Atlanta Falcons, but Cousins might have accidentally made a horrible mistake during his introductory press conference with the team.
During his press conference to announce his signing on Wednesday, Kirk Cousins accidentally admitted that he spoke directly to the team’s head athletic trainer on Tuesday, a day before NFL rules allowed him to actually have that conversation.
“There’s great people here,” Cousins said according to Pro Football Talk. “And it’s not just the football team. I mean, I’m looking at the support staff. Meeting — calling, yesterday, calling our head athletic trainer, talking to our head of P.R. I’m thinking, we got good people here. And that’s exciting to be a part of.”
That’s obviously against the rules, and it could be a horrible problem for the Falcons as teams can be stripped of draft picks for engaging in tampering of that nature.
It’s obviously some pretty horrible news for Cousins and the Falcons that he slipped and admitted something like that, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
The Vikings getting the Falcons first rounder as a result of this would be the biggest win Cousins gave to the Vikings… https://t.co/uby7wOLK3x

The irony when the Vikings get a first round pick in return for the Falcons tampering is gonna be legendary. https://t.co/YI9uf9YtqJ

God, it would be hilarious if the Falcons lost their first-round pick after being the only team in the NFL willing to give Kirk Cousins the insane amount of money he was looking for https://t.co/Sic3RfZI8r

We’ll have to see if any punishment comes from this.
