Over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to trade former starting quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles just a few days after the team signed Russell Wilson. And it seems like he wasn’t happy with the way things were playing out with Wilson joining the team.
According to NFL insider Albert Breer of SI.com, Kenny Pickett was not happy when he learned that the team planned to give Russell Wilson the first crack with the first-team offense in the spring.
“No promises were made by the @Steelers on starting jobs, I’m told. Veterans generally get the first crack at it with the 1s in spring, and so the plan was for Russell Wilson to begin with that, and for there to be a QB competition with Kenny Pickett from there,” Breer said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Where the disagreement happened—Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told Kenny Pickett there'd be an open competition in the spring/summer if the team signed Russell Wilson. So Pickett felt misled when he was told Wilson would get first crack with the 1s in OTAs, and asked for the trade. https://t.co/L9M50gKy9Z

Now, Pickett will look for a fresh start in Philadelphia while the Steelers will move forward with Wilson and Fields.
