Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to sign veteran quarterback Russell Wilson after he was officially cut by the Denver Broncos. It was initially expected that former starting quarterback Kenny Pickett would remain with the team and compete with Wilson for the starting spot, but he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after, and it doesn’t sound like he’s happy with the way it all went down.
During his introductory press conference with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kenny Pickett was asked what went wrong with the Pittsburgh Steelers after they added Russell Wilson. And he called them out a little bit, making it clear that he wasn’t exactly happy with the communication – though he didn’t go into specifics – but thinks that he at least handled things the right way.
“I think the communication is what it is. It was behind closed doors. I’m confident in the way that I handled it. I handled it the way I should have handled it,” Pickett said at his introductory news conference Monday according to ESPN. “I’m excited to be here. It worked out so well that Philly was the place I ended up landing in. Everything happens for a reason and I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
Reading between the lines of this statement from Pickett, if there was a communication breakdown and he is confident in the way he handled everything, that means he thinks the Steelers erred in their communication with him. And he’s calling them out for it.
All in all, it seems like the trade was bets for everybody after the communication breakdown.
