Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs tried and failed to re-sign veteran defensive tackle Chris Jones to a long-term contract extension. But it sounds like the team is going to do everything they can to put together a new contract extension for him this offseason.
During a press conference at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine this week, Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach made it clear that signing Chris Jones to a contract extension will be a priority for the team this offseason.
“Love Chris and tried really hard to get something done and we didn’t,” Veach said of the contract talks between Jones and the Chiefs last offseason. “But, when we got together right after that Detroit game, we had a great talk. And, you know, both parties, I think, want [Jones] to be here. So we’ll get to work. And that’s certainly a guy we want back and love and want to see him finish and end his career in Kansas City.”
Jones has emerged as one of the most dominant interior defensive linemen in the entire league and has been an integral part of the Chiefs’ defense. We’ll have to see whether or not the team can keep him in Kansas City for the long haul.
