Russell Wilson is widely expected to be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team signed him this offseason following the decision from the Denver Broncos to cut him. But the team also added Justin Fields by way of a trade with the Chicago Bears, and it sounds like he’s ready to help the team, too.
During a recent interview, Justin Fields made it very clear that he is willing to help the team however they need him, even if that means serving as sort of a do-it-all offensive weapon like Taysom Hill has been for the New Orleans Saints in recent years.
“When my name is called, I’ll be ready,” Fields said on Tuesday according to Tim Benz of TribLive.com. “In whatever capacity.”
Fields did note that there hasn’t been much talk of using him in that way, but it sounds like Wilson would support it.
“Justin is obviously one of the most talented guys in the NFL,” Wilson said. “You know all the things he can do. The player, the quarterback that he is. He’s dynamic. It’s all about us winning. That’s the focus. I think it would strike fear in some defenses, that’s for sure.”
We’ll have to see what happens, but it’s clear that’s an option if the Steelers want to use it.
