Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields has received quite a bit of scrutiny over the past few seasons as he has been inconsistent in throwing the ball since the Chicago Bears selected him with a top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. But one thing that isn’t up for debate is his running ability, and he passed a major milestone in that regard this week.
During this week’s 28-13 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon, Justin Fields surpassed 2,000 rushing yards in his career, becoming just the third quarterback to hit that mark through his first three seasons in the league.
“Fields now has 2,021 career rushing yards in just 36 games. He’s only the third quarterback in NFL history to reach 2,000 rushing yards in his first three seasons,” Michael David Smith wrote for Pro Football Talk on Sunday. “Lamar Jackson had 2,906 rushing yards in his first three seasons, while Cam Newton had 2,032 in his first three seasons. Fields won’t catch Jackson’s three-year total, but he should pass Newton’s total next week.”
Fields’ future may be uncertain with the Bears as the team could potentially choose a quarterback at the top of the NFL Draft this season, but he’s certainly proven himself a dynamic athlete at the position throughout his first few years in the league.
