The New Orleans Saints had a pretty rough season, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive time. And it sounds like the team is considering a pretty shocking addition to the coaching staff as they try to improve.
According to a report from Jeff Ducan of NOLA.com, the New Orleans Saints are considering hiring Jon Gruden to their coaching staff.
“The Saints are expected to make changes to their coaching staff in the wake of their disappointing 2023 season, and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is being considered as a possible addition, sources said Monday,” Duncan reported on Monday evening.
“Gruden, a Super Bowl-winning coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recently visited with Saints officials during the team’s Week 17 road trip to Tampa, Florida, where Gruden has a home. He attended a team meeting the night before the Saints’ game against the Buccaneers and dined with staff, including Loomis, at a local restaurant later that evening, sources said.”
Obviously, this would be a significant and somewhat controversial move as Gruden resigned as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders under pressure two years ago after leaked emails revealed his racist comments. He’s also currently in the middle of a lawsuit against the NFL, which would make the situation even more messy.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Saints actually go through with this plan.
