When the Baltimore Ravens added former Louisville Cardinals quarterback Malik Cunningham to the roster last year, many thought he would serve as a backup quarterback to his former college teammate, Lamar Jackson. But this offseason, Cunningham has made a position switch and is now trying to make the team as a wide receiver. And it sounds like he has impressed his head coach.
During a recent interview, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh opened up a little bit about Cunningham’s position switch as he made it clear that he thinks that the former quarterback is actually “a natural” at playing wide receiver.
“[He’s] kind of a natural at the position,” Harbaugh said according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “I’ve seen that he understands the game from the perspective of the quarterback, so [his] routes and coverage and timing and things like that have been excellent.”
While Cunningham played his entire college career as a quarterback and went through the NFL Draft process as a quarterback last year, he is quite clearly a fantastic athlete as he rushed for 3,182 yards and 50 touchdowns in his college career.
Needless to say, it sounds like Harbaugh has been impressed with his position switch.
