The Baltimore Ravens gave just six carries to their running backs in the AFC Championship game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs – a team that struggled to defend the run the week before. And head coach John Harbaugh is now admitting that was a mistake.
During a press conference this week, John Harbaugh addressed the team’s rushing totals and pointed out that some of the pass attempts were RPOs that could have been carries for the running backs if the defense reacted correctly, but he still admits that the team should have run the ball more.
“When you look at the way the game played out, you can understand it from a football perspective but once you get through all that you come back — You want to run the ball against the Chiefs,” Harbaugh said according to Pro Football Talk. “There’s no doubt about it and we did want to run the ball against the Chiefs. We weren’t able get to it.”
Harbaugh admitted it was a mistake, saying that the way the team played on Sunday was “not going to win an AFC Championship Game.”
Unfortunately for Harbaugh and the Ravens, the team will now have to wait until next season for another chance.
