This offseason, the NFL made a rule change that prohibited the “hip drop” style of tackle. But one star player isn’t happy about the apparent lack of enforcement.
During this week’s game against the Chicago Bears, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon suffered an injury as a result of a tackle that he seemed to believe should have been flagged as an illegal hip drop tackle.
However, no flag was thrown.
Mixon then took to social media to express his frustration and call out the league.
“The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is,” Mixon said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Mixon said he voiced his frustration to the referee, as well, but the official claimed the tackle was not a hip drop tackle.
“When I got up I asked the ref where is the flag that was a hip tackle. & his reply was no it wasn’t,” Mixon said in a follow-up post.
Mixon is set to get an MRI on his ankle after suffering an injury as a result of the tackle.
