The Cincinnati Bengals are having a rough go of things this season. Despite entering the season with Super Bowl aspirations, Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped the Bengal to 4-8 on the season.
It’s become less likely by the week the Bengals make the playoffs. What’s been especially frustrating for Cincinnati, is that quarterback Joe Burrow is playing arguably the best football of his career.
Burrow threw for three touchdowns and over 300 yards in Sunday’s loss, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory. After the game, Burow conceded that there are players in the locker room that the team can not count on and that he expects to find out exactly who they are over the home stretch of the season.
“The next six weeks will say a lot about who we can count on and who we can’t,” Burrow said, via the Bengals’ official website. “I think we’ll learn a lot about who we have in the locker room. The guys we can count on going forward, and the guys we can’t.”
Burrow also talked about how he isn’t taking being able to play every week for granted, even as frustrating as the season has been.
“You try to give your opinion in ways that you feel comes off the best. This is a tough season, and the cornerstones of this organization are going to be remembered by more than this season.
“We will be remembered by how we handle this. It’s still an exciting opportunity to go out and play for this city and this team, week in and week out. That’s something I don’t take for granted, especially with my injury history. I’ve been on the sidelines and that’s not a fun feeling. I love being out there with the guys for the city, the team, and the ownership. I love playing.”
It’ll be interesting to see if the Bengals can pull things together enough to make one last push at the playoffs.
