The Minnesota Vikings selected former Michigan Wolverines star quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft last month, likely hoping to replace Kirk Cousins as the team’s starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. But one horrible pass from McCarthy during his first practice this weekend certainly led to a lot of negative attention.
This weekend, J.J. McCarthy participated in the Minnesota Vikings rookie minicamp, getting his first chance to show his new team what he can do throwing the football. But unfortunately for him, one of the passes he threw went absolutely viral for all the wrong reasons.
In a video shared by NFL Live this weekend, McCarthy can be seen trying to throw the ball to one of his Minnesota Vikings coaches who is not all that far away from him. Unfortunately for him, the pass was widely off-target and was completely uncatchable by the coach, falling to the turf.

McCarthy was visibly upset by the horrible throw as he clapped his hands together in frustration and looked at the dirt.
The video has since gone absolutely viral on social media, getting more than 1 million views in just one day.
Obviously, this is just one throw and doesn’t paint a full picture of how McCarthy performed throughout the entire practice, but it certainly was not a good pass by McCarthy.
Hopefully for him, this is simply an anomaly and not a precursor to what Vikings fans will see from him in the coming years.
