On Thursday night, the Minnesota Vikings got their next quarterback as the team traded up to select Michigan Wolverines star J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And it sounds like he is quite excited to play with superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
In his press conference with the Vikings after he officially joined the team, J.J. McCarthy had a pretty clear message for new teammate Justin Jefferson, saying “it’ll be great to get that connection going.”
“He reached out to me and sent me a great text,” McCarthy said according to the Minnesota Vikings the team website. “He told me confidence is key in this league. And just being able to hear that from him, to be able to get introduced to all the wise words he’s going to be giving me over the years, I’m just extremely excited and can’t wait.”
McCarthy is expected to serve as the replacement for longtime starting quarterback Kirk Cousins after he left the team to sign with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent this offseason. It will be interesting to see how McCarthy performs at the NFL level, but having a star receiver like Jefferson will certainly make that transition a bit easier.
