Sam Darnold has been the starting quarterback this season for the Minnesota Vikings after their first-round pick, JJ McCarthy went down with an injury to his meniscus in the preseason that cost him the year.
While Darnold has performed admirably, fans are still disappointed about McCarthy’s absence. Unfortunately, the Vikings have just confirmed that McCarthy is in need of another surgery.
“NEWS: Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy had a 2nd surgery on his right knee this week to address swelling that developed after an uptick in rehab activity, per source. As part of the procedure, he was given a biologic injection,” reported ESPN’s Kevin Seifert on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the tough break on social media.
“Why do I feel cold inside,” one fan wanted to know.
“I have a terrible feeling NGL,” added a fan.
“Yea this sounds really great and encouraging!” one fan said sarcastically.
“Uuh. this isn’t good at all for his age,” one fan added.
“A good reminder when a team or doctor says the surgery was “successful” immediately after, no one really knows until they’re fully healthy,” one fan added.
“You can make every excuse in the book but this isn’t good. Like I said he’s not starting til 2026,” one fan added.
Hopefully, this is a minor setback for McCarthy, but things aren’t looking great.
