The Las Vegas Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo last offseason to be their starting quarterback. And almost exactly a year later, it sounds like the team is now going to part ways with the veteran quarterback.
According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to officially release Jimmy Garoppolo on Wednesday.
“The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to cut QB Jimmy Garoppolo tomorrow, per sources. There are a few teams interested,” Russini said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The move comes after Garoppolo was hit with a two-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. As a result, Garoppolo is now expected to forfeit his $11.25 million base salary guarantee for the 2024 season.
Obviously, this is pretty significant news regarding a longtime starting quarterback in the league, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

The Raiders signed veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew on Tuesday, who is expected to compete for the starting quarterback spot with Aidan O’Connell, who started as a rookie last season after Garoppolo was benched. There’s also a chance the Raiders choose to select a rookie quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
