Jimmy Garoppolo will be taking an absolutely massive pay cut this season after signing with the Los Angeles Rams.
Before he was released from the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year as a result of a suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, Jimmy Garoppolo was set to make a fully guaranteed $11.25 million for 2024 with another $11.25 million in non-guaranteed wages, totaling $22.5 million.
Garoppolo forfeited all of that money as a result of his PED suspension, and as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, his new contract doesn’t even come close to those original totals.
“Five days after Garoppolo agreed to terms — and after the contract was signed and filed with the NFL — the numbers are finally out. NFL Media reports that Garoppolo’s base pay on a one-year deal with the Rams is $4.5 million. Incentives push the maximum value to $12 million,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk on Wednesday.
So the most that Garoppolo could possibly make this season is just more than half of what he could have made this season after the PED suspension.
Obviously, this is a massive pay cut for Garoppolo as he forfeited a lot of money due to the suspension.
