The New York Jets have made it official.
Aaron Glenn never left the building. The Jets welcomed the former Jet great and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator in for an interview and made sure to get the deal done. On Wednesday, it was revealed that the two sides agreed to terms on a deal that will make Glenn the next head coach of the franchise. And so ends a busy coaching search that involved plenty of names, including former coach Rex Ryan.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on Glenn’s hiring on Wednesday afternoon.
“A new coach in New York: Jets are hiring former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach,” Schefter said on X.
Glenn is the eighth coach the Jets have hired since the turn of the 21st century. The franchise hasn’t won the Super Bowl or even appeared since the 1969 season. They have relentlessly chased that dragon, only to come up short every time.
They’ve had runs of success, but nothing has stuck quite as they want it to. In hiring Glenn, New York hopes that those days are over. And so ends their coaching search, which will now turn into a frenzy on assistant coaches.
Glenn helped lead a defense in Detroit that played very well at times. The Lions have lost their top two coordinators and defensive line coach this offseason, as attrition has hit them hard.
But so it goes in the NFL. The NFL world reacted to the big news on the Jets.

At a @nyjets fan, I have always been a supporter of this man. Childhood favorite, had a poster of him and Adrian Murrell on my wall as a kid. Wish nothing but success for him and the team. https://t.co/a1G8UBrQBo
