Everyone knows that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are attempting to make NFL history as the first team ever to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles, but Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made some NFL history himself over the weekend.
During Sunday’s win over the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts had three rushing touchdowns to help lead his team to a 55-23 victory over the Commanders and send them to the Super Bowl.
It was a dominant showing from Hurts in any context, but those three rushing touchdowns also put Hurts in the NFL record books.
As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out, those three rushing touchdowns gave Hurts nine career rushing touchdowns in the postseason, which is now the most in NFL history for a quarterback in the postseason.
Hurts passed San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, who finished his career with eight rushing touchdowns.
Behind Hurts and Young in the record book, Tom Brady, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes each have seven career rushing touchdowns in the postseason, with both Mahomes and Allen expected to add to those totals throughout their careers.
Hurts’ dominance on the ground extends to the regular season, too. Just five seasons into his NFL career, Hurts already has 55 career regular-season rushing touchdowns, putting him in third place in NFL history. Hurts is just 20 rushing touchdowns behind Cam Newton, the all-time record holder.
Needless to say, it’s pretty clear that Hurts is going to have quite a few NFL rushing records by the end of his career.
