Sitting at an NFL-worst 2-9 on the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars were rumored to potentially be parting ways with head coach Doug Pederson as they went into their Week 12 Bye Week. And while that didn’t happen, there were some changes made to potentially show some improvement down the stretch of the season.
Coming off an embarrassing 52-6 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 11, something needed to change given the sheer effort from the team in that game.
It was perhaps a bit of a surprise to see that Pederson isn’t on his way out yet. But Pederson did address the team’s struggles this season in a press conference on Monday.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Pederson has made some “in-house” changes to the Jaguars. But he is not yet ready to reveal what those changes are.
Given how disastrous the team looked on both sides of the ball in their last game, it seems quite possible that either offensive coordinator Press Taylor or defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen may very well be losing their responsibilities.
Regardless, something on the Jaguars will change heading into the team’s Week 13 game against the Houston Texans.
It will be interesting to see what changes in particular are being made, which we will likely hear officially at some point ahead of their Week 13 game.
Unfortunately, there are far more issues for the Jaguars currently than just coaching. Trevor Lawrence may still be sidelined against the Texans, meaning that Mac Jones may get another start under center.
Jones has looked incredibly lost in the last two games, failing to get over 150 yards passing in either game. In both of these games, Jones also failed to record a single passing touchdown.
Long gone are the days when Jones looked somewhat competent as the quarterback of the New England Patriots. So don’t be shocked to see their struggles continue barring these coaching changes making a drastic improvement.
